Welcome!
You can be a scientist anywhere! Here you can find cool things you
can do at home. It doesn’t matter if you live in the city
or the country – nature is all around you!
Nature
Journals
Lots of scientists keep nature journals. Inside a nature journal
you can draw pictures or write about the things you notice outside.
Thomas Jefferson is one famous scientist who wrote in his nature
journal every day.
What kinds of things can you draw or write about in your nature journal? Anything you want! Did your cat do something funny? Are there birds outside your window? There are no rules and that can make a journal fun.
Here’s how you can make your own nature journal.
What
you will need:
Some sheets of paper. Any size!
A stapler and staples
A big piece of construction paper
A piece of hard cardboard
Rubber bands
Just fold the construction paper in half. Then staple the blank paper inside. There’s your journal! Cut the cardboard so that your journal will fit on top of it. Then use your rubber bands to hold your journal in place. That way you can write outside and the wind won’t blow your journal away!
What to do with it:
Many scientists draw or write about the things they notice outside.
You can also glue fall leaves inside your journal, do rubbings or
write poems.
